I was born in Chicago and raised there for a few years before we moved to South Florida to live for the rest of my childhood. We kept our allegiances to our Chicago sports teams which caused some conflict with my friends and classmates who were Miami fans.
Over the years I noticed how most (not all) Miami sports fans were extreme bandwagon jumpers, meaning they only rooted for their teams when they were doing very well. In poor seasons you hear not a peep from these fairweather fanatics. Enter Alvaro Fanfarrón, a character I created based on years of observing the typical Miami fan.
After the Heat re-signed Dwyane Wade and then added Chris Bosh and LeBron James, all of a sudden there were millions of Miami Heat fans. Yet, rewind to the previous year and the arena had more empty seats then a public library. The typical bandwagon hopper has little to no knowledge of the sport he / she is suddenly a fan of and gets quite confused about most things.
In this first video we meet Alvaro for the first time. He is super excited that his team has just re-upped with Wade and snatched Bosh from Toronto.
This time around, Alvaro is confused because several weeks have passed and he hasn’t seen any Heat games. Little does the poor sucker know that the season hasn’t started yet.
This is our bandwagoner’s reaction to the Heat’s first loss which consequently came in their very first game. As is wont of the typical fairweather fan, he is ready to jump ship after just one letdown.
What’s next for our favorite Miami fan? Only time will tell!
